Burlesque Icons with British burlesque Legend Jo King
At the heart of Burlexe is the stories of the women who began the art form and perform today. We are all about inspirational women and the herstory of showgirls.
In this burlesque video series we spoke to our guru and British burlesque legend Jo King aka. Goodtime Mama Jojo. Our latest insight sees Jo King share her burlesque icons.
Goodtime Mama Jojo has over 35 years experience of teaching burlesque lessons ad the Founder of the London Academy of Burlesque. Needless to say, she knows her stuff.
Jo King begins by talking about the beginning of her burlesque dancing career and the women who were working at the time. Even if she didn’t realise their influence at the time.
This can still be true today as the achievements of other women can push other burlesque dancers to go that step further. Likewise it can help them find inspiration and insights into their own strengths and weaknesses.
Then Jo King discussed the inspirational women in history who touched her life. There’s plenty to love whether it’s the comedy of Bette Midler or strength of Maya Angelou.
That led to the concepts that Jo King has infused into her burlesque dancing career. This obviously includes dance and self expression but also comedy.
Finally Jo King talks about the power of women and the love she has for her gender. Here here!
