The History of Burlesque

This July, Afterglow Arthouse host The History of Burlesque. Put the date in your diary for an evening of burlesque dancers and guest speakers including our very own burlesque guru, Jo King and producer, Howard Wilmot.

The History of Burlesque

Afterglow is the worldwide community for people working in the erotic arts and adult arena. Their London events provide an opportunity for people to connect, switch cards and get a little sozzled together.

On July 13th Afterglow Arthouse present The History of Burlesque for burlesque dancers, those working in the industry or considering it, enthusiasts and other performers looking for inspiration. The event promises a glittering networking opportunity for all.

The sparkling burlesque performances will represent a variety of genres. The bill includes classical burlesque, comedy burlesque, boylesque, fire, Dominatrix and a tantalising wild card. There certainly seems to be something for every taste.

See burlesque dancers Phil InGud, Scarlette Belle, Fanny Dent, More Moorita, Snake Fervor and friend of Burlexe, Lolo Brow.

Afterglow also invite photographers, writers and improv-artists to attend, bring along their equipment and mingle with the creative and fabulous crowd.

The doyenne of London burlesque and our burlesque guru, Jo King will be speaking at the event. This year has seen Goodtime Mama Jojo host The London Academy of Burlesque Alumni Show, perform in the Burlexe show and much more.

As Afterglow Arthouse note, Jo King has 30 years experience as a performer, teacher and curator. She has played a key role in the careers of over 30 percent of Europe’s current pro-performers and she definitely has something to say on the matter.

The British burlesque legend is an inspirational speaker which many in burlesque know from her success as a teacher and of course, her monologues in our show. Wink. Definitely not a woman to be missed. Find out more about Jo King on The London Academy of Burlesque website.

The founder of The Cheek of It! Burlesque School, Lady Cheek, will also be a guest speaker at The History of Burlesque. Starting as a performing arts teacher she is now an international burlesque dancer, a comedienne, an events producer and a vintage pin up model. So, our kind of woman then.

November 2012 saw the five year anniversary of The Cheek of It! Lady Cheek sees 700 women come through her doors each year. By the anniversary, there was 3,000 graduates. Phew!

We recently loved The Cheek of It!’s A Cheeky Moment a Day! They got people to tweet their cheeky moment a day that helped them sparkle, shimmy and play #OohTheCheekOfIt. Find out more on The Check of It! website.

Howard Wilmot

The History of Burlesque

Mr Howard Wilmot is the writer and producer of both the Burlexe show and the Boylexe show. He has now been named as the third speaker at The History of Burlesque.

Not ones to toot our own horn, ahem, we’ll let Afterglow do it for us. They said, “His personable nature is a credit to the show’s run of success’ over the last year and they, along with the performers continue to go from strength to strength.” Blush.

And yes that is a pic of him with Dita Von Teese. Needless to say, you want to see this guest speaking slot.
