Burlesque History – Inspired by Betsy Boudoir

At the heart of Burlexe is the herstory of showgirls in both our live pop-up theatrical burlesque shows and in our online brand.  We share the stories of the women who created the genre and those shimmying the good shimmy today.

We’ve been teasing behind the scenes pics of our Burlexe burlesque films and now they’re here. They chart the circumstances that led to the careers of these amazing women and the truth behind the curtain. You hear the heartfelt, humourous descriptions of how burlesque changed these women’s lives and what burlesque means to them.

Our first burlesque monologue stars the wonderful British actress, Dympna Messenger. She’s seen here revealing the first few instalments of the story inspired by Betsy Boudoir.

Burlesque dancing allows women to celebrate their sexuality and reclaim their pedestal at any age and Betsy Boudoir did just that. What a woman.

We’d like to say a special thanks to Playful Promises for this gorgeous corset and filming and editing lovely, Neil Charlwood. The hair and makeup was by Alexa Dellarosa and styling from Holly Symmons.

You can also watch the story of burlesque revised by UK burlesque stars and actresses in just 70 seconds.
